Laurynas Katkus (b.1972 in Vilnius) is a Lithuanian writer, essayist and translator.
Katkus studied Lithuanian and Comparative literature in Vilnius, Norwich, Leipzig and Berlin and holds a PhD with a thesis on exile in modern poetry.
His latest book is "Nakvynė Berlyne" (A Night in Berlin, 2022), a collection of novellas.
In 2014 he edited an anthology of contemporary Lithuanian short stories "Troleibuso istorijos" (Trolleybus stories).
In 2012, a novel by Katkus „Judantys šešėliai" (Moving Shadows) was published.
He published three books of poetry, the last being “Už 7 gatvių” (Behind 7 streets).
A book of essays „Sklepas“(The Basement) appeared in 2011.
Katkus' works have been translated into more than ten languages;
collections of poems in German “Tauchstunden” and “Alle Richtungen”
collection of poems in English “Bootleg Copy”,
books of essays in German „Kabuff" and in 2017, "Moskauer Pelmeni" have appeared.
His last book in translation is a novel "Schwankende Schatten" (Berlin: Klak Verlag, 2022)
Katkus was a fellow of Akademie Schloss Solitude in Stuttgart, of Junge Akademie of Berlin Academy of Arts, of International Writing Program in Iowa, and others.
He has translated, among others, S.Sontag, W.Benjamin, F.Hölderlin, G.Büchner, E.Jünger, O.Paz and L.Seiler into Lithuanian.
